Episode 2: As if this didn’t approach me
No Sex in My City: Episode 2
The saga of dating has unfortunately continued, and this time, it came into fruition at a time that I didn’t think was possible.
I was on my ‘mid-work day crash out’ walk, another unfortunate event in the day that is my life, when I was abruptly stopped by a m*n.
I’ve walked these streets many times, unbothered and unscathed, crashing out or not, and for that, we are grateful! However, being mid-crash out and then stopped by a m*n, I wanted to crash out even more! Read the room, buddy!
I quickly reversed and inhaled my tears - a true super power invented by women - because I didn’t need to look vulnerable and helpless. When my eyes focused, I got a glimpse of him and he wasn’t so bad to look at. He at least apologized for stopping me, and followed with a compliment, the correct and normal amount of decency that one could receive from a man.
I immediately regretted stopping because it was turning into a conversation that I didn’t have in me. After what felt like an eternity and a terrible disruption to my peaceful crash out, he got my phone number out of me and I continued with my life.
Honestly, the only reason I stopped and allowed this was because I told myself I wouldn’t write anyone off completely and he wasn’t ugly.
One could appreciate the courage to approach me, but to also have a plan in mind: to grab a coffee with me. We even found out that we work in the same building, so that was weird.
I shortly received a text from him and we had plans to grab coffee later in the week, albeit, during work hours. Honestly, I’d rather do this during company time than my own time, so this was a win! Not on my own time, plus a free latte? There’s nothing to lose.
What could go wrong?
The time came around and I was partaking in the ultimate side quest of a coffee date during company hours. I was bound to company time, so if this wasn’t going well, I had the ultimate excuse to up and leave.
Going into this, I wasn’t exactly nervous, but scared that he wasn’t going to be physically attractive, considering I was caught off guard, midst crash out. However, I didn’t mind maintaining eye contact; he wasn’t ugly.
From walking to the coffee shop, sitting and talking, to walking back to the office, it clocked in to a good thirty minutes. A whole thirty minutes I didn’t mind; well, I’m also at the point where I’d literally rather be anywhere than work. Before we parted, he asked if I was open to dating and I told him that I wasn’t necessarily opposed to it, so he offered to take me to dinner sometime.
Who is this guy?
Afterwards, I texted my girl friends, as one does, so that we can go snooping on this stranger. Did I trust everything he was saying? No, he was a man. I took everything with a grain of salt. He could easily be lying about, well, anything and everything.
We got his full name and went in complete investigation mode to not find him anywhere on the interwebs. Look, we’re girls, we’re going to find you. However, how does one, in this day and age, not have a trace of an internet presence. Not even a LinkedIn, which was the most surprising part, considering he “works in corporate”.
This was all very alarming, especially considering our text thread was green.
Did I see him again? Will I see him again?
If you haven’t checked out episode one, check it out here, because, here’s where it gets comedic: I’ve seen to be ghosted yet again. This is why you trust nothing and no one or anything. Words don’t mean anything, clearly.
This time around, I didn’t care that I was ghosted; it’s more so just comedic that this has happened to me twice after agreeing to things that have approached me.
These are all just supporting roles and scenes of my plot. Truly, that was fun and I’m glad I don’t have to do it again.
xoxo,
kaels
too bad ain’t me <3
